The Boone Town Council meets Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 1500 Blowing Rock Road, with a work session at 5 p.m. followed by regular business and public comment at 6 p.m. The agenda includes a discussion of enforcement of noise, parking and trash ordinances on Oak Street, a request to expand drive-through hours at Jeremiah’s Italian Ice, a granite reflection bench at the Veterans Memorial on King Street and a $230,500 water system engineering agreement.

Ten grants worth $54,000 were awarded in Watauga County for the 2026 cycle, part of $120,000 granted to 27 organizations across the Blue Ridge Energy service area. The Foundation also provided crisis energy bill assistance to more than 760 members this year. Funding comes from members participating in Operation Round Up and Operation Round Up Plus.

The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will begin delayed harvest trout stocking Nov. 2, about a month later than usual, after a hot summer, drought and Hurricane Helene damage to the watershed caused roughly 70% of the fish at Armstrong State Fish Hatchery to be lost. The agency bought about 50,000 catchable-size trout from a private hatchery to help, and the schedule is posted online. Delayed Harvest waters are catch-and-release with artificial lures and a single hook through June 5, 2027.
