A Freeze Watch was just issued for the High Country. Here’s what to know:

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg issued a Freeze Watch at 1:38 p.m. Friday for Watauga and Ashe counties, and the Greenville-Spartanburg office issued one at 1:56 p.m. for Avery and other western N.C. mountain counties. Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 29 are possible from late Saturday night through Sunday morning, roughly 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday, especially at higher elevations. Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Take steps now: protect tender plants, drain in-ground sprinkler systems, remove hoses and cover above-ground pipes.
