The Avery County Sheriff's Office is warning of two different phone scams making the rounds.
One of them is a scam targeting firemen. The caller is stating that as a fireman you qualify for 40% of a 100,000 dollar payout from the litigation involving “ASSS Foam” utilized by firefighters for many years. They request that you send $500.00 to get started and collect your money.
The other scam involves a Social Security card. The caller requests $250.00 for a new social security card.
The Sheriff's Office would like to remind everyone, “DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY UP FRONT TO ANYONE OVER THE PHONE.”
