The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for…East Central Ashe County in northwestern North Carolina…
* Until 830 PM EDT Friday.
* At 220 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producingheavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches ofrain have fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to beginshortly.
HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE…Radar.
IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urbanareas, highways, streets and underpasses as well asother poor drainage and low-lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include…Jefferson… Glendale Springs…Wagoner… Othello…Mount Jefferson…
This includes the following streams and drainages…Roten Creek, Obids Creek, Beaver Creek, Peak Creek, Naked Creek,Dog Creek and South Fork New River.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flooddeaths occur in vehicles.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National WeatherService by calling toll free at 1…8 6 6…2 1 5…4 3 2 4. Reportsand pictures can also be shared on the National Weather ServiceBlacksburg Facebook page and on X.
