The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a
Flash Flood Warning for…East Central Ashe County in northwestern North Carolina…
Until 900 PM EDT Saturday.
At 252 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producingheavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2 inches ofrain have fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to beginshortly.
HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE…Radar.
IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urbanareas, highways, streets and underpasses as well asother poor drainage and low-lying areas.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include…Jefferson… Laurel Springs…Wagoner…
This includes the following streams and drainages…Mulberry Creek, Naked Creek, Dog Creek, Little Peak Creek, PeakCreek, South Fork New River and Meadow Fork.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flooddeaths occur in vehicles.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
