The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

  • Flash Flood Warning for…Northwestern Ashe County in northwestern North Carolina…Southwestern Grayson County in southwestern Virginia…

  • Until 800 PM EDT.

  • At 215 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producingheavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches ofrain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inchesare possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing orexpected to begin shortly.

HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urbanareas, highways, streets and underpasses as well asother poor drainage and low-lying areas.

This includes the following streams and drainages…Little Helton Creek, Little Phoenix Creek, Jerd Branch, Dog Creek,Little Horse Creek, Big Horse Creek, Grassy Creek, Cut LaurelCreek, Helton Creek and Big Laurel Creek.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flooddeaths occur in vehicles.
