…FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM EDT THIS EVENINGFOR NORTHWESTERN ALLEGHANY NC AND CENTRAL ASHE COUNTIES…

At 339 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated the thunderstorms thatproduced between 1.5 and 2 inches of rain within an hour earlierthis afternoon have exited the warned area, leaving only light tomoderate rain. Runoff from the heavy rain will continue to collectin the local creeks and streams, and may push some of them out oftheir banks, and across nearby roadways. Flooding has already beenreported in the Towns of Jefferson and West Jefferson, with a fewroads reported closed until the water recedes.

HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poordrainage and low-lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include…Jefferson… West Jefferson…Wagoner… Mount Jefferson…Othello… Scottville…Piney Creek…

This includes the following streams and drainages…Dog Creek, Beaver Creek, Elk Creek, Helton Creek, Mulberry Creek,Naked Creek, New River, Little Phoenix Creek, Crab Fork, GrassyCreek, Call Creek and Little River.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flooddeaths occur in vehicles.
