…FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 845 PM EDT THIS EVENING…

  • WHAT…Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

  • WHERE…A portion of northwest North Carolina, including thefollowing counties, Alleghany NC and Ashe.

  • WHEN…Until 845 PM EDT.

  • IMPACTS…Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.Overflowing poor drainage areas.

  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS…

  • At 532 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due tothunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to beginshortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rainhave fallen.

  • This includes areas mainly north and west of Jefferson NC.Watch for sudden rises on area creeks and streams. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are expectedover the area. This additional rain will result in minorflooding.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which arepotentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross floodedroads. Find an alternate route.
