The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a
Flash Flood Warning for…Southeastern Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina…
Until 715 PM EDT.
At 122 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producingheavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rainhave fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches arepossible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expectedto begin shortly.
HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE…Radar.
IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urbanareas, highways, streets, and underpasses as well asother poor drainage and low-lying areas.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include…Blowing Rock… Deep Gap…Aho… Moses Cone Memorial Park…
This includes the following streams and drainages…Flat Branch, Dugger Creek, Elk Creek, South Fork Laurel Creek,Left Prong Stony Fork, South Fork New River, Stony Fork, FallCreek and Little Dugger Creek.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flooddeaths occur in vehicles.
