Flash Flood Warning for…South Central Ashe County in northwestern North Carolina…Southeastern Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina…West Central Wilkes County in northwestern North Carolina…
Until 245 AM EDT Monday.
At 833 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producingheavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches ofrain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 3 inches in 1hour. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE…Radar. IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urbanareas, highways, streets and underpasses as well asother poor drainage and low-lying areas.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include…Boone… West Jefferson…Blowing Rock… Deep Gap…Todd… Foscoe…Wilbar…
This includes the following streams and drainages…Elk Creek, Left Prong Stony Fork, Beaver Creek, Brushy Fork, DutchCreek, Fall Creek, Laurel Fork, Grassy Creek, Craborchard Creek,Dugger Creek, Little Dugger Creek, Flat Branch, Clear Branch andCall Creek.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flooddeaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize thedangers of flooding.
