On Monday, February 17, 2025, the Avery County Sheriff's Office was notified of two missingindividuals. The two were reported missing by family members and were entered as missinginto a national database. A search was initiated in an attempt to locate both mother and child.
On the morning of February 18, 2025, the victim's vehicle was located overturned in a creek offUS Hwy 19 E near the Cranberry community. Both victims were located deceased inside thevehicle as the result of a motor vehicle collision. Names of the victims will not be released untilall appropriate notifications are made. The North Carolina State Highway will be conducting themotor vehicle collision investigation.
