This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for north central North Carolina,northwest North Carolina, central Virginia, south central Virginia,southwest Virginia, west central Virginia and southeast WestVirginia.
.DAY ONE…Today and Tonight.
Light snow is expected late tonight and Thursday as an upper-leveldisturbance tracks southeast across the region. Snow accumulationsare expected to average around 1 inch or less in most areas.Untreated roads and surfaces could become snow covered and hazardousby Thursday afternoon and evening as temperatures fall belowfreezing.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…Thursday through Tuesday.
As noted above, light snow accumulations up to an inch will bepossible during the day Thursday. Untreated roads and surfacescould become snow covered and hazardous by Thursday afternoon andevening as temperatures fall below freezing.
Another opportunity for winter precipitation will arrive Friday Nightand Saturday as an area of low pressure develops along the southeastU.S. coast and moves from the Georgia Coast toward the Virginia Coaston Saturday. At this time, snow amounts from this system are expectedto average around 1 inch or less west of the Blue Ridge and range from1 to 3 inches east of the Blue Ridge. Winter Weather Headlines maybe needed for parts or all of this area with later forecasts. Pleasenote, however, that there remains considerable uncertainty withrespect to the track and intensity of this storm. Snow amounts andimpacts to the forecast area will be refined with later forecasts.
