…SPOTTY LIGHT ICE AND SNOW ACCUMULATION POSSIBLE AROUNDDAYBREAK IN HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE NORTH CAROLINA MOUNTAINS…

A cold front has passed the southern Appalachians and temperaturesare expected to fall quickly this morning in higher elevations ofthe North Carolina mountains. Precipitation will remain possiblethrough mid-morning, although becoming increasingly light withtime. Where temperatures fall below freezing, the precipitationmay fall as light snow, with northwest-facing slopes also likelyto see a minimal amount of ice accumulation. At some locationsabove 3500 feet, and possibly in some lower valley locations alongthe Tennessee border, this could result in bridges and decksbecoming slippery. Sunshine will return by late morning andtemperatures will rise above freezing by midday at all but thehighest ridge tops.
