…INCREASED FIRE DANGER ACROSS SOUTHEAST WEST VIRGINIA,SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA AND NORTHWEST NORTH CAROLINA IN EFFECT FROM 11AM THROUGH 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING…

After coordination with local land managers, a Fire DangerStatement has been issued for counties within southeast WestVirginia, southwest Virginia and northwest North Carolina. Thecombination of dry fuels, afternoon relative humidity below 30percent, and winds gusting at times 25 mph to locally 40 mph willincrease the danger of any fires quickly spreading out ofcontrol.

Please exercise extreme caution if handling open flames orequipment that creates sparks. Dispose of cigarette buttes,matches, and other flammable materials in appropriate containers.Keep vehicles off of dry grass and obey local burn bans. Most drygrasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could easily igniteand spread fire quickly. Refer to your local burn-permittingauthority on whether you may burn today.
