Town of Boone, North Carolina— Amy Davis, the Town of Boone’s current Town Manager,has announced her retirement, effective December 2025. Mrs. Davis has faithfully served theTown of Boone for over 25 years. Dale Presnell, the Town of Boone’s current Director of HumanResources, will become Interim Town Manager once Mrs. Davis officially retires.

Amy Davis has served the Town of Boone for over 25 years, beginning her time as FinanceSupervisor in 2000. In 2004, Mrs. Davis was hired as the Town of Boone’s Finance Director, aposition she held until September 2022, when she was appointed as Town Manager. “During mytime as Town Manager, I had three goals I wanted to accomplish. I wanted to help ensure thatTown staff were being paid competitive wages, I wanted to see the start of the Howard StreetProject, as it had been in discussion since I came to the Town of Boone, and I wanted to see anew Public Works building built.” Mrs. Davis stated. “While I have not seen the new PublicWorks building built, we are in the process of receiving architectural drawings of the building,and I hope to be able to see footers placed soon.”

Mrs. Davis served as the Town of Boone’s first female Town Manager. “Serving as the Town ofBoone’s first female Town Manager has been my greatest honor. Since working for the Town ofBoone, I have been able to serve under multiple female Boone Town Council members, workwith many female department heads, and have mentored multiple women during my tenure withthe Town. I am beyond grateful for the kindness and support the Mayor and the Town Councilwho appointed me to this position have shown me. The Town of Boone has been, and willcontinue to be, a place for individuals to grow in their careers, grow in their community, andabove all else, grow as a person. I look forward to retirement, however, I will miss everyone inthe Town of Boone and am excited to see how the current staff and elected officials will continueto enhance Boone’s culture and community.”

Mrs. Davis led the Town of Boone during Hurricane Helene; the largest natural disasterimpacting the Town of Boone in modern history and has continued to lead the Town of Booneduring this period of recovery. Dale Presnell, the current Director of Human Resources for theTown of Boone, will become interim Town Manager effective December 1st, 2025. From nowuntil Mrs. Davis’s retirement, Mr. Presnell will work with Mrs. Davis to ensure a smoothtransition period. “I am honored to have been chosen as Interim Town Manager.” Mr. Presnellstated. “Amy is one of my mentors in the Town of Boone and has been an amazing supervisor.She has helped foster and create a work environment that has reduced the amount of turnoverwithin the Town of Boone, and while I’m saddened by her departure, I am excited to see whatretirement has in store for her!”.

“Amy will be extremely difficult to replace,” stated Tim Futrelle, Mayor of the Town of Boone.“Not only because of her more than 25 years of institutional knowledge navigating the innerworkings of the Town, but also because Amy, as a person, is truly irreplaceable. I am honored tohave been Mayor when we appointed her and am grateful for the opportunity to accomplish somuch together. I wish her all the best in her much-deserved retirement, and she will be sorelymissed.”

The Town of Boone will undergo a nationwide search to determine who will become the Town ofBoone’s next Town Manager. Additional details on how the nationwide search will be conductedwill be posted on the Town of Boone’s website at www.townofboone.net in the coming months.
