Town of Boone, North Carolina— The Jimmy Smith Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Town ofBoone-operated wastewater treatment plant, was honored by the National Association of CleanWater Agencies (NACWA) and received the Peak Performance Awards’ Gold Award inrecognition of its complete and consistent permit compliance during the calendar year. The utilitywas recognized at a July 23 ceremony during NACWA’s 2025 Utility Leadership Conference inColorado Springs, C.O..
This year NACWA recognized 512 treatment facilities at 198 of its member Public Agencies foroutstanding levels of compliance and performance related to their National Pollutant DischargeElimination System (NPDES) permit. An NPDES permit is required for facilities to dischargeinto waters of the United States. It outlines requirements that ensure discharges do not harmwater quality or human health.
