On the night of September 20, 2025, Boone Police Department received a report of a male shooting into an occupied vehicle in the parking lot of the Circle K convenience store located at 2969 Highway 105 South. Officers responded to the scene and detained Thomas Matthew Presnell, 35, of Vilas. After an investigation, a handgun was recovered from the scene.

Mr. Presnell was subsequently charged with Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, Assault by Pointing a Gun, and Discharging a Firearm within City Limits. He was given no bond and a court date of December 22, 2025. There were no injuries reported from the incident.
